Laser Assisted Painless Root Canal Treatment

A root canal treatment is inevitable for various dental conditions like deep decay, repeated infection around old fillings or crowns, cracked or chipped teeth, and other trauma to teeth that may result in injury to the pulp. The simple principle of root canal treatment is to access a tooth's infected pulp and root canals, clean out the infected tissue and fill the empty pulp chamber and canals with a sterile filling. After this, the access is sealed and a porcelain crown is placed for additional protection and strength.

These steps are done with a dental drill and hand instruments in conventional root canal whereas with the advanced Laser Technology, a highly focused beam of light is used to destroy the infected tissues and clean the root canals. Powerful laser technology irradiates each of the canals to destroy infectious bacteria where manual instruments cannot reach and thereby increases the success of the treatment with minimal discomfort or pain.

Advantages of Laser Root Canal Treatment:

  •     More precise as laser can target the infected area with greater accuracy
  •     Preserves more tooth structure
  •     Evident decrease in bacterial counts
  •     Reduced risk of re-infection
  •     More comfortable and painless without the sound of drills
  •     Limited requirement of local anaesthesia
  •     Single sitting root canal possible in qualifying patients

Do not let the fear of drills not keep you from getting your root canal treatment done anymore. The cutting edge technology that we use with lasers have proved to be completely safe and comfortable with great recovery among our patients. So keep your anxieties at the bay by choosing Laser assisted Root Canal Treatment.

Teeth Straightening and treatment for a displaced tooth

To straighten teeth or treat displaced teeth you need an Orthodontist. So, what is the difference between a Dentist and an Orthodontist.
Dentistry is concerned with the prevention and treatment of oral diseases, including that of the teeth, supporting structures and soft tissues of the mouth. A dentist is a General Practitioner.

An Orthodontist is a Specialist Dentist dealing with the prevention and correction of irregularities to the teeth. It is a very specialised branch of dentistry.

Teeth Straightening:

Braces and surgery are the common methods of correction. Provided that the teeth and gums are strong and healthy, braces are a great option for all ages. For children, they are best, as their bodies are still growing and adaptable.
  1. Metal Braces:  these are preferred for complex alignment issues and use wire, bands and brackets. In extreme cases, head gear may be necessary.
  2. Ceramic Braces: these work the same as metal ones but are made of ceramic. They are either clear or tooth coloured, but tend to stain or break easily.
  3. Invisible Braces: these are made out of clear plastic and are specific to each person’s mouth. They are like sports mouth guards and are fitted over each tooth and have to be replaced twice monthly.
  4. Lingual Braces: the side of the teeth facing the tongue is the Lingual surface and these braces are similar to metal braces but attach to the back of the teeth. They are very expensive.

Surgery to reposition the teeth and gums is another option. However, one may still have to wear braces. If the teeth are affecting the ability to speak or chew, another type of surgery called Orthognathic surgery to realign the jaw may be recommended.

Displaced Teeth or Dental Avulsion:

This is the complete displacement of teeth from the jaw bones, often due to trauma. This is considered an emergency treatment. Immediate replantation is the best option.

When this is not possible, replacement with artificial teeth or prosthetic, may be necessary and depends upon each case.

Management of tooth avulsion

Complete displacement of a tooth from its socket in the alveolar bone due to trauma or related issues is known as tooth avulsion. Tooth avulsion is considered to be a dental emergency and requires prompt treatment. Certain sports would lead to dental injuries such as rugby, basketball, and similar activities. Custom-made mouth protectors can be used as best protection or preventing the tooth from injuries or damages.

Treatment

Generally, the dentist will clean the socket, wash the teeth, and replant them into their sockets. They would use a saline solution to clean the avulsed permanent tooth. However, the doctor will make sure there is no damage occurring on the surface of the root, which might have living periodontal fiber and cells. Once the cleaning is performed, the doctor would attempt to replant the tooth in its original socket and laser splint after several weeks.

If timely treatment or replacement is not performed for the avulsed teeth, then it might result in a less favorable diagnosis for the tooth. If the mouth is injured or sore, then cleansing the wound may be necessary along with stitches. These stitches would require local anesthesia and a tetanus immunization if the mouth is contaminated with soil. Avulsed primary teeth should not be replanted to avoid damage or permanent dental issues. At times an immediate replant will not be recommended if there are any infections. Medications would be provided to treat the infections initially, and then the treatment would be given. The dentist will remove the dental pulps of the replanted teeth after 10 days of the procedure. A root canal treatment will be performed after this.

For a treatment to be long term, the doctor would recommend simple measures such as good oral hygiene, a soft and cold diet, and stay away from smoking. All these can provide a favorable condition for periodontal ligaments regeneration.

For more information or queries, the team from Srivari Dental Clinic can be of the right assistance. The doctor and his team perform the best and cost-effective dental treatments, especially for tooth avulsion. The team ensures complete satisfaction and provides the promised outcome.

Know the movements of the jaw

The movements of jaw and muscles surrounding them are important as any problem on these indicates Temporomandibular disorder (TMJ / TMD). The temporomandibular joints include tendons, bones, and muscles that help the movement of jaw in connection with chewing, talking, and yawning. This joint is one of the most complex joints in the body that connects the jaw to the temporal bones of the skull.

 TMJ

Notice the signs

Certain signs need to be noticed for early treatment, such as:
  • Severe ear pain
  • The popping of the jaw or clicking
  • Severe pain in the jaw
  • Headache
  • Jaw muscles are stiff
  • Locking of the jaw joint
  • Problems with chewing
  • Severe facial pain

Causes
Based on the cause, the pain on the jaws could occur either on one side or both sides. The causes would include:
  • Injuries on the teeth
  • Injuries to the jaw
  • Misalignment of the jaw or teeth
  • Stress
  • Clenching of the teeth or grinding
  • Chewing gum excessively

Medical care

At times TMJ disorders will get treated on its own. The doctor would suggest various treatments based on the symptoms. If the symptoms persist or get worse, the doctor would recommend surgery.
  • Pain relievers - based on the severity of the condition, the doctor would suggest a pain reliever
  • Tricyclic depressants - the doctor would recommend these medications if the patient suffers sleeplessness and severe pain
  • Muscle relaxants - the pain caused by muscle spasms can be reduced with these relaxants
  • Mouthguards or splints - these would be beneficial for patients with TMD
  • Physical therapy - strengthening and stretching exercises for jaw muscles can help relieve pain caused due to TMD
  • Laser treatment - laser would help reduce the pain and inflammation without the use of medications and it helps to improve the damaged jaw
The doctor would suggest surgery if the above treatments fail. The surgery would include arthrocentesis, injections, arthroscopy, modified condylotomy, and open-joint surgery.

At Srivari Dental Clinic, the doctor identifies and provides the best treatment for problems caused by TMJ disorders. The clinic is equipped with the latest laser treatment as well for a better and speedy recovery.

The Role of Imaging In Smile Dentistry

Dentistry is the only field in medicine that has the power to transform a crooked smile into a flawless one that enhances the beauty of a person. The field of dentistry has come a long way in the past three decades and has witnessed great advances in technology in all its branches. The incorporation of digital X-rays and intraoral cameras in the treatment process has made it easy for doctors to examine the various structure of the patient's mouths effectively. One such area which makes use of precise diagnostic tools and advanced imaging techniques to meet the patient's more demanding aesthetic expectations is smile designing.

Smile Designing

Smile designing is a cosmetic treatment procedure that aims at enhancing the overall appearance and health of the smile. It makes use of the right treatment options to meet the needs of the patient like dental veneers, tooth implants, teeth whitening, and composite bonding. Previously the patients couldn't have a look at their result before the completion of the treatment. But, thanks to the advancement in the imaging techniques that allows the patients the comfort of having a glimpse of their makeover smile before even the procedure starts.

One such technique that makes the patients the co-designer of their treatment by sharing their expectations and aesthetic requirements with the dental team is Digital Smile Design(DSD). DSD is a unique dental planning tool that enhances the care provider's vision, diagnostic ability, and predictability. It improves the communication between the dentist and the patient as the complete treatment plan is based on the thorough analysis of the patient's dental and facial proportions with the help of photos and videos taken at each stage of the treatment.

With the help of DSD videos and mockups, the dentist will get a better understanding of the relationship between the teeth, gums, and lips, as well as how they work together to create a patient's smile. The process of the DSD starts with the complete oral examination followed by treatment identification and discussion. Once the treatment is finalized, a digital photo of the current smile will be taken, and various change factors will be incorporated that provides a glimpse of the changed smile or facial appearance to the patient. Once the patients confirm and agree on the outcome, treatment will be started.

Digital Imaging techniques empower the patients to make informed decisions and provide an opportunity to have a glimpse of their future before committing to the treatment.
